Fall Classic Final Game Captures Over 50 Million Viewers Across the United States, Canadian and Japanese Markets.

The exciting extra-inning clash where the Los Angeles Dodgers overcome the Blue Jays 5-4 attracted a total 51 million watchers across the United States, Canada, and Japan markets. Major League Baseball announced this represents the highest-rated Fall Classic Game 7 since the 1991 edition showdown featuring the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Details

The Saturday memorable game averaged over 27 million viewers on Fox Sports networks, Fox Deportes and their digital services. Per ratings data, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the previous week.

It also stands as the most-watched Fall Classic game after the 2017 final game involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which drew 29.07 million. This represents a sixteen percent increase over the last Game 7 featuring the Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19M.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 placed 4th, Game 4 ranked 7th, Game 5 was eighth, and the third game finished in 13th place.

International Audience Figures

In the Canadian market, the climactic game averaged 11.6M viewers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports. This made it the highest-rated English broadcast in the country after the 2010 edition Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding contest began at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it attracted 12 million viewers. This followed the previous Friday’s sixth game – in which Fall Classic MVP Yamamoto gave up a single run in six innings – recorded over 13 million spectators, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic game on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Series Totals and Trends

The entire seven-match series averaged 15.71 million audience members on Fox, a two percent increase from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This represents the first time since 2015 and ‘16 that the World Series has seen audience increases for two consecutive seasons.

Counting the opening game telecast on the Univision network, the total US average was over 16 million. The overall Fall Classic average in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in Canada.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels recorded 8.09 million viewers, an eight percent rise over last year and the network’s strongest postseason ratings after 2017.

MLB reported that the World Series was broadcast in 203 countries and territories by forty-four media partners in sixteen different languages.
