Israeli Forces Attacks Iranian Territory as Explosions Heard in the Capital

Early Saturday, reports emerged of major blasts shaking the Iranian capital, following claims from Israeli officials that it had carried out a preemptive strike.

Loud Blasts and Smoke Reported in the Heart of Tehran

According to on-the-ground reports, two loud blasts were audible in the city on Saturday morning. Simultaneously, two plumes of thick smoke were observed billowing over the centre and east of the Iranian capital.

“The type of these blasts indicates that this is a missile attack,” a media outlet stated, without immediately provide further details.

Context: Rising Tensions and Recent Developments

The incident occurs against a background of sharply increased tensions in the Middle East. Major events preceding this strike involve:

  • US Military Buildup: A significant buildup of US naval forces in the Middle East, featuring the movement of carrier strike groups.
  • Nuclear Talks: Latest discussions between the US and Iran on Tehran's nuclear programme concluded without a deal, with indications of more discussions scheduled.
  • Public Statements: Before the strike, a senior US official had described Iran as “the world’s number one sponsor of terror” and issued threats regarding its missile program.
  • Ultimatum: Reportedly, a deadline of 10 to 15 days had been given to Iran to resolve the nuclear dispute or confront severe consequences.

Iranian Response

In response to prior accusations, Iranian officials had charged the United States of spreading “big lies” about its defensive capabilities. Officials rejected assertions about weapons development and casualty figures as baseless.

These developments remains fluid, with further updates anticipated as events unfold.
